Demonstration: The Art of Patina

Grounds for SculpturePatina is a classic sculptural technique used on many works at GFS to create colorful effects on metal.

In celebration of Grounds For Sculpture’s 25th anniversary, join us for this demonstration led by Trenton-based artist Autin Wright, Technical Supervisor for Paint and Patina at The Seward Johnson Atelier.

Wright will demonstrate a range of patina techniques. Due to the chemical reaction that occurs during this process, no two patinas are exactly alike!

Autin Wright and D.J. Haslett Among “Up-and-Coming Artists” Chosen to Perform in Singer/Songwriter Showcase

Local Alternative Artists Perform Blues & Soft Rock Medley at WwacFest Summer Musical Festival

20170805AutinWWCouncilTrenton, NJ – “Up-and-Coming Artists” Autin Wright and D.J. Haslett were among several local musicians chosen to feature their talents during the Singer/Songwriter Showcase of the West Windsor Arts Council (Wwac) Summer Musical Festival on August 5th. Performing under the name “Transitory Lift, the artists treated audience members to the original arrangements of the blues song “Sad Surprised” and the alternative rock song “You Keep Hanging On” as well as played their own original contemporary rock composition titled “the Devil in the Detail.”

“We’ve been playing together for the past six years,” says Autin of Trenton, NJ. “It’s such a thrill to play before a local crowd. We specialize in a blend of alternative rock, blues, and reggae compositions as well as several songs we wrote on our own. The original work we performed at the festival spoke of the struggles and thrills of young musicians looking to carve their niche in a field they truly love. Watching the crowd react to this composition could not have been more rewarding and fulfilling.

In addition to performing music throughout the area, Autin is an artist, sculptor and painter whose marble and aluminum sculptures can be found at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton; University Medical Center of Princeton, NJ; and Art Community Experience (ACE) Sculpture Park in Shouthampton, Pa. His latest abstract painting titled “Moon Walks the Night” was on display throughout the festival.

A former member of the Apostles rock band in the 1960s, D.J. Haslett is an award-winning artist, published poet, and photographer with artworks currently on display at the ACE, Hamilton Free Library, and Straube Center Sculpture Garden in Pennington.

Hosted by the West Windsor Arts Council and its major supporter, DDR Corporation, WwacFest offers a full-day of free music, performance-based acts, craft, food, and fun to all attendees. A full schedule is available at www.westwindsorarts.org.
